Does the government have the right to take a person's life who has committed murder? Why or why not?

I believe that if someone kills an innocent person yes the government has complete right to give them the death penalty. What gave that person the right to take an innocent person's life away? Yes, I know this is an eye for an eye concept but I believe that if this was always the consequence then less crimes such as murder, would be committed.

However, there are certain facts that have to be taken into consideration. If someone murdered someone else in their own self defense, they should not be sentenced to death. They were only trying to save their own life and unfortunately take the person's who was trying to kill them in the process. Also certain situations like car accidents. The driver of the other car most likely did not intend to crash into another car and tragically kill someone in the process. After all, they are called accidents for a reason.

The way I look at the death penalty is by putting myself in the situation. If someone was going to court for murdering and doing other atrocious things to my child, I would want that person dead. It might sound harsh to many people, but that is how I feel. Can you honestly say you wouldn’t want the person responsible for the death of your child to die?

Evil

The nature of evil is something that is characteristically horrible and atrocious. In my opinion, of course evil exists. Look at the world around us, the countless amounts of terrible things that happen everywhere everyday, leave me to think that of course there is evil in this world. However, that being said I think there is also good too. Evil is caused by the faults of many people. Greed, ignorance, and arrogance have caused many conflicts throughout history. Certainly, evil can be defeated but many people are too afraid of what could happen if they try to stand up to bad things. Those that are courageous enough can defeat and stand up against evil to protect what is good in the world. This is where the ideas for superheroes came into play, to let people, mainly children realize the world isn't all a bad place, and evil can be defeated. Although, it doesn't take a huge muscle beefcake of a man to defeat it. Example all throughout history have shown this like Martin Luther King Jr. He stood up against what he knew what wrong and helped African Americans through discrimination. Anyone can defeat evil; they just have to care enough to fight against it.
